Ready for your next great read?

JD Kirk – Author, Scottish Crime Fiction Novels

We all have our favorite books that we love to curl up and read, and I’m no different.

You may or may not be aware, but there are numerous subgenres that authors can choose when writing a Crime novel. This primarily comes down to simply what their writing preference is. For example, you have Cozy Crime which has been made famous by Agatha Christie’s Miss Marples, Suspense/Thrillers, such as Lee Child’s Jack Reacher, Police Procedurals, and Legal Thrillers, just to mention a few.

My favorite Crime subgenre is a combination of Suspense/Thrillers/Mystery. I love the feeling of being on the edge of my seat, wondering where the story will take me next. It’s pure escapism, and regardless of what genre you enjoy reading, we all love to escape down that rabbit hole!

Currently, I’m reading some great crime fiction by writer JD Kirk. JD hales from Scotland, and because he is so intimate with the rugged Scottish Highlands he takes advantage of that knowledge and primarily focuses his stories in that region.

Kirk’s first adult crime series revolves around the main character, DCI Jack Logan, a tough, no-nonsense Scottish detective, who has a very short wick when it comes to idiots and the Press. Logan and his team are challenged with solving numerous grisly murders, so if you like a modern-day police “who-dun-it” with plenty of humor and fabulous, quirky characters, you might thoroughly enjoy this series. But, be warned. JD Kirk’s characters are larger than life and quite a few of them swear like sailors, but, in my opinion, it’s in line with their personalities and, more often than not, very comical.

The other series he’s recently begun writing is based on a former soldier who is now a burnt-out, disgraced ex-cop, Robert (Bob) Hoon. Hoon was introduced into the early novels of the DCI Logan series and has since earned himself a spinoff due to his vast popularity with readers. You’re either going to love or hate Bob Hoon. I love him. He doesn’t pull any punches (well, actually he does), and his brash, overbearing personality is larger than life. And laugh! I don’t think I’ve laughed so hard when reading what Hoon gets himself, and others, embroiled in. His interpersonal skills are nonexistent, but you’ll have to read the books to find out why. And again, be warned, because very colorful and creative cussing is part of Bob Hoon’s way of communicating, especially when confronting the bad guys. And by the way, whomever I’ve recommended JD Kirk’s books to has become addicted.

So, if reading Crime fiction is your thing, keep an eye out for other book recommendations that I’ll post here on my Blog. If you’re anything like me, you’re always on the lookout for your next gripping read.

Oh, and just a reminder! I’m busy working on my debut fiction novel, The Sight, which is a mix of subgenres … Crime/Suspense and Paranormal! To find out what it’s about go to my Upcoming Books in the above Menu and check it out.

In the meantime, I’ll keep you posted as I get closer to finishing it and will provide details on how you can order either a printed copy or an eBook.
